Baptisms

    Baptisms

Baptism is a joyful and significant step in a person’s journey of faith — a public declaration of trust in Jesus, a commitment to follow Him, and a moment where we receive God’s Spirit through the symbol of water. Whether you’re exploring baptism for your child or for yourself, we’d love to walk with you on this journey of faith.

As an Anglican church, we baptise both children and adults. When children are baptised (known as a Christening), their parents and godparents make promises on their behalf — to help them grow up knowing and loving Jesus as part of a worshipping community. Adults who are baptised make those promises for themselves as a personal commitment to follow Jesus.

At St Christopher’s, baptisms usually take place during our 11:00am service on the third Sunday of the month.

We also can offer a Thanksgiving Service — a special opportunity to thank God for the gift of a child and to pray for God's blessing on them and their family. This can be a meaningful alternative for parents who may not feel ready to make the promises involved in baptism.

If you live in the parish or are part of our church community and would like to find out more, we’d be delighted to talk with you.
